I understand that by registering as a user on the Homester website, I agree to voluntarily provide personal data for the matching of roommates or co-living partners. Otherwise, Homestar may not be able to provide services. Some personal data will be displayed to other users in the matching pool. This website will do everything possible to protect user data and avoid leakage.

 

I agree not to use the chat function to transmit pornographic, foul language, intimidating, violent, insulting, illegal, harassing, obscene, defamatory, privacy-infringing, discriminating (including but not limited to age, race, gender) messages or anything else that may violate the laws of Hong Kong, and Homester will provide assistance when requested by the relevant authorities.

 

I understand that Homester will not use my personal data for any direct marketing purpose, and I agree that Homester will transfer my personal data to the CUHK Residence Hall Department, the landlord or other estate agents after matching for the purpose of assigning the residence halls or flat sharing arrangements.

I understand that even if various measures have been implemented, including but not limited to two factor authentication (2FA), Homester does not guarantee the accuracy of personal information provided by other users and I am willing to bear the relevant losses induced by those information. I understand that I should verify others' information by myself.

 

In order to protect data security, Homester uses cookies on the website to ensure the identity of users. Users understand and agree that their cookies contain user data. If you refuse to use cookies, Homestar may not be able to provide services.

 

According to the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, Chapter 486 of the Laws of Hong Kong, users have the right to access and correct personal data provided. If the user wants to view or modify their personal information, it can be modified in the personal profile page.

 

In order to facilitate users without having to re-register every year, Homester will retain user data until the end of expected graduation date. If the user does not log in again within the subsequent one year, Homester will delete their data.

I agree that Homester may use and analyze my data for purposes including (but not limited to) the following:

- Verify my identity
- Handle my inquiry
- Process my application
- To respond to my inquiries or complaints about Homester services
- To assist Homester in preventing or reporting or investigating fraud or other crimes that have occurred or may occur
- Contact me when needed
- Disclosures required or permitted by law

Disclosure and Sharing of Personal Data
In addition to the above-mentioned purposes, I understand that Homester will keep all personal data held confidential, but may disclose information about me to the following parties:
- Law enforcement agencies, government departments, regulators, courts or other agencies as required by law
- Professional advisors (including lawyers and auditors)
